Pulling the Roots: Recent Work by Tonya Balik and Leah Dunbar

Stout Fine Art alumnus come together with their recent work inspired by thoughts of transition and growth. Tonya recently received her MFA from University of Minnesota.
Leah works as an independent photographer in the Menomonie/Eau Claire area.
Show will be a mixture of Photography and Painting using mixed media.
Opening Reception: Friday, January 6th 7-10pm.

After a long stretch of cold cloudy days, Easter Sunday was finally warm and sunny. From the Easter egg hunt in the back yard, to sidewalk chalk art in the driveway, the day couldn't have gotten much better!

November 11, 2010. Marie and Catlan's backyard became the perfect backdrop for the couple's late summer wedding.

"Leah Dunbar was the most fabulous photographer to have for my engagement picture and wedding pictures! For our engagement pictures, she made my husband and I feel so comfortable. She wanted to get to know us and helped us do things in our photos that felt natural to us. For our wedding she treated it as an event, so she arrived early and stayed late into the night. One of my favorite things she did was caught pictures of all of my guests. She prepared the pictures in a very fast and timely manner. I have received many compliments on her from our guests and they noticed that she didn't miss a single moment. When something major was happening, she caught it on camera! November 14, 2009. It was such a pleasure to work with Maureen and Aaron. We had so much fun with the engagement session I knew the wedding was going to be a blast! These two are some of the sweetest people you will ever meet.

Senior pictures are important and I knew I didn't want the same generic pictures as other students in my area. With Leah, I got senior pictures that were extremely personalized and very special. Leah has the ability to make you feel right at ease in front of the camera and have fun with you too!
My pictures turned out beautifully, and were exactly what I wanted - completely unique.

June 4, 2009. Mike and Elizabeth got married in her backyard in Wayzata, MN. They had a small gathering for the ceremony on Friday evening. The next day many came out to celebrate!

Testimony from Elizabeth Sweeney.....'We wanted someone who could be with our family and capture the emotion of the day. On this special occasion, Leah did things that we didn't even anticipate. She captured the pre-ceremony, ceremony and post celebration in ways we didn't think of or even ask for. The family photos are cherished and certainly capture the spirit of the day. Her presence was unobtrusive and allowed her to get shots that were completely in the moment. She's intuitutive. To see the photographs was reliving the most cherished day of our lives in a way we will remember forever. Thanks, Leah!'

June 27, 2009. Sara and Joe's wedding day started out a bit cloudy.....it actually down poured right after the rehearsal. Luckily everyone was safe under the pavilion! It was high drama for all of those theater kids! The sun came out and the wedding day continued in lovely Phoenix Park, Downtown Eau Claire.

October 17, 2008. Sarah and Ben had their reception just outside Eau Claire at Sarah's parents home. Many guests traveled great distances to pitch a tent in the back yard and dance the night away in rural Wisconsin. From the homemade tortillas to corn field chases to the live band this event was filled with fun!

August 8, 2008. Tim and Dawn got married in the Rose Garden by Lake Harriet, on a gorgeous summer day. After the wedding we rode around in a vintage car, made a couple stops, and ended up at The Varsity Theater in Dinkytown where the evening continued!

Leah Dunbar is a great wedding photographer. She's very organized and was great to work with. Not only did she do an excellent job making sure all the group photos were perfect, she caught every other aspect of our wedding too. From the atmosphere of both the wedding and the reception to making sure every moment and every family member was photographed. Her large breadth of photos capture all the moments of our wedding and they are all excellent. I'm very glad to have had Leah document our very special day for us. She did a wonderful job.
